Report on Cyclone Tauktae

Greetings,

The unfortunate event of cyclone Tauktae left many people in hardship and misery. In the past year. Just after the cyclone, our team in Gujarat visited the coastal villages that were affected due to the cyclone and met the affected people, local CBOs and government authorities and identified the issues faced by them.

The work can be divided into two phases, in the initial stage, CSJ did relief work immediately after the cyclone had hit by providing ration kits, solar lamps, motors etc. In the second phase, we have been focusing on mobilizing support for the rights and demands of the fisherfolks in the aftermath of the cyclone.  CSJ organised campaigns, wrote to different government offices, filled RTIs, conducted camps for reissuing lost documents etc.

In our recent report, we critically examine the Gujarat Government’s compensation package for the cyclone victims and provide recommendations from a disaster management lenses. The critique and recommendations are directly informed by CSJ’s work on disaster management in the districts of Amerli, Rajula, Una, Gir and Somnath. To read the full report see the attached file.
