Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh is Professor and Dean, UPES School of Law Dehradun. Immediately before joining UPES, Dr. Singh headed the School of Corporate Law for three years at the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), a think-tank and capacity building institute under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India.
Dr. Singh has also served the Competition Commission of India (CCI) as Deputy Director (Law). During this stint for about five years with the Regulator, Dr. Singh has worked in the Legal Division and has been actively involved with the capacity building and advocacy activities of the Commission including international cooperation. Dr. Singh is a doctorate in law with basic degree in science followed by degrees in law with Gold Medals in his LLB and LLM examinations from Nagpur University. Dr. Singh has authored a book titled “Corporate Power to Corporate Crimes: Understanding Corporate Criminal Liability in India”.
Prior to joining CCI, Dr. Singh was associated with Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur as a faculty in corporate laws and securities regulations. Dr. Singh has also been a Law Clerk to Hon’ble Justices at the High Court of Judicature Bombay: Nagpur and also had a brief stint of professional practice in High Courts and Tribunals at Nagpur.
Dr. Singh is a certified trainer on “Managing Disputes and Difficult Conversations on the Board‟ by Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) and a mediator by ICADR. Dr. Singh has written a number of articles on different topics like sports law, money laundering, corporate governance, environmental law, CSR, competition, business and human rights, and international trade/economic law. He has participated and presented papers in a number of national and international seminars/conferences/workshops. He is an invited resource person for courses on completion law and policy, international trade laws and corporate affairs in institutions of repute. Dr. Singh has widely travelled nationally and internationally. His present areas of interests include competition law, corporate and securities law, international trade and economic law, comparative business laws including insolvency, IPR and Competition, ADR and legislative policy and drafting. Dr. Singh is the Life Member of Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA), the Indian Society of International Law (ISIL) and The International Centre for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ICADR), Indian Law Institute (ILI) and Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA).
