Sustainable Development Goals: Workshop on Monitoring & Engagement

Contetnt:

Dear friends,

Greetings from Centre for Social Justice,

We, at the Centre for Social Justice, are organising a series of workshops on Monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals and Effective Engagement with the State in Ahmedabad. The first phase of this series of workshops shall be conducted from September 29th to October 2nd, 2022. This email contains a short note on the workshop and concept notes for the event.

We would like to invite your organisation for the same and we hope you would be able to nominate people from your organisation for the same!

Sustainable Development Goals: Workshop on Monitoring & Engagement

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adopted by the world leaders at a historic United Nations Summit in September 2015 are essentially a call to action to member-States to build prosperity alongside sustainable measures to protect the planet. The responsibility is on the individual member-States to devise national monitoring frameworks for achieving the goals. In India, the primary body tasked with contextualising the SDGs to India and ensuring their implementation is the NITI Aayog.

Since States are not legally bound to the SDGs, lapses or shortages in funds allocation or implementation are frequent. Since any lapse has the potential for disastrous consequences for the communities that are meant to benefit from the implementation of the SDGs, it is crucial that the civil society organisations take up the task of monitoring and providing a yardstick for communities as well as the State to judge the latter’s progress/commitment.

It is keeping in mind this vital and powerful role that CSOs occupy in the process of achieving the SDGs that the present program, a series of workshops, has been planned by the Centre for Social Justice.

Event Details

The program has been designed as a 3-phase input and action program, starting in September, 2022 and ending in January, 2023. Starting in September, the program will consist of three workshops interspersed with time when the participants will return to their respective work areas and take forward the input received. Therefore, it is important that the same group of participants be attending all three phases of the workshop series.

The themes that have been chosen for this workshop are: Labour rights, Victim Compensation and Farmers rights. Participants will be able to apply the principles, tools and techniques learnt from the workshop, in their own context in any thematic field they are working on. At the same time, CSJ will provide hand-holding support for the same beyond the planned programme.

Date of the first phase: 29th September to 2nd October, 2022
Location: Neembadi Learning Pathway, Sanand, Ahmedabad
Time: 10:00 am onwards on 29th September

(Note - Please aim to reach Ahmedabad by the night of the 28th September or early morning of 29th September. The event will end by 4 pm on 2nd October.)

Please note that we will be arranging food and accommodation for all participants. However, travel costs are expected to be borne by the participant. A limited number of travel subsidies are available. Please confirm your participation by responding to this email (and kindly CC socjust.media@gmail.com) by the 5th of September, 2022.
